Position Summary

This position is responsible for performing highly skilled journeyman mechanic duties in the Transit Fleet Maintenance Branch. This position reports to the Supervisor of Maintenance and Equipment. We are also receiving applications from apprentices from year 1 to 4. Note: May be required to work varying day, evening and weekend shifts.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs maintenance and overhauls bus engines, transmissions, differentials, brakes, suspension, steering, HVAC and all auxiliary equipment, including electrical components.
  • Assists in determining and ordering parts and materials necessary for repair of equipment.
  • Diagnoses mechanical and electrical defects.
  • Performs Highway Traffic Board safety inspections and related repairs.
  • Performs related duties as required.

 Position Summary

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Journeyman Plumber/Gasfitter to join our team. The ideal candidate will be capable of performing a variety of tasks related to the installation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing and gas fixtures and systems within a residential multi-family setting.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Read blueprints and drawings to understand or plan the layout of the installation of apartment buildings and heating system, and determine the materials required, estimate material costs, as well as maintain inventory required
  • Conduct system inspections and testing to ensure all installations meet safety codes, regulations, and company standards
  • Install hot water tank and complete repair and maintenance, change gas valves, control modules
  • Locate and repair leaks and other issues with water supply lines, drain cleaning -kitchen sinks, toilets, etc.
  • Repair or replace broken drainage lines, clogged drains, faucets etc.
  • Install and service different types of boilers, including steam boilers, mid efficient, high efficient and make up unit.
  • Cut, assemble and install pipes and tubes with attention to existing infrastructure
  • Repair domestic appliances and fixtures- taps, sinks, toilets etc.
  • Install and maintain gas and liquid heating systems (air-conditioning units, radiators etc.), HVAC
  • Install, maintain and service gas heating units and their components, such as burners, valves and automatic controls
  • Test and replace defective equipment or components
  • Test and adjust control mechanisms and check pipes and piping connections for gas leaks using gas detecting devices.
  • Repair and service gas appliances and related equipment.
  • Maintain records of work performed and condition of facilities, materials used, and any follow-up required
  • Ensure compliance with all safety protocols and local building codes, identifying and mitigating potential hazards.
  • Be part of on-call and attend to emergencies as necessary and as scheduled by Facility Manager
  • Other relevant duties assigned by Regional Manager/Facilities Manager

 Qualifications and Requirements

  • Journeyman Plumber, Steam fitter, gasfitter certification, class A
  • Strong working knowledge of building and boiler systems/hot water tanks/furnaces
  • Strong working knowledge of heating and ventilation (HVAC) systems as well as appliances
  • Experience in multi-family residential buildings an asset
  • Experience using power tools safely and effectively is essential
  • Must have own tools
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and a reliable vehicle to use at work
  • Must successfully complete a security clearance
